What is "digital" ?

“Digital” can mean lots of things, from fingers to electricity. but for the purposes of this website i will use the definition contextualized by Douglas Eyman in his book digital rhetoric: theory, method, practice

The digital then, both as a new form of production enabled by information and communication technologies and as a reference to the human history of written communication (from nonalphabetic writing to what we traditionally consider “print”), provides a bridge between textual production (broadly defined to include multimedia) and rhetoric. Who am I?

my name is kjersti anderson, hailing from Chicago, il.

I am an English and art double major at st. olaf college, participating in an english Digital Rhetoric course (Fall Semester 2016) for which this website was made. I plan on teaching after graduating because I feel that it is something that I am called to do. And even if I don’t end up teaching in a classroom, I’ll participate in some kind of service to education. A good education makes good people (at least that’s my philosophy) and a good digital education makes good digital practitioners. thus i created this website with very true vocational passion. I truly believe a digitally engaged education is crucial for the healthy development of society.

With this definition i argue: english, as an academic field, should involve a broader technological scope than it has before because it enables a more efficient and relevant education. furthermore society as a whole should invest in these types of initiatives in public community schools.

What does a digitally engaged curriculum look like?

a note about the site:

I constructed this site from a blank white

background. every aspect of this site was manually placed and animated. no templates were used. if shapes are misaligned, please reload the page; wix software is spotty in that regard.     enjoy!
